MUMBAI TERROR ATTACK
Blasts in Mumbai, multiple locations of Indian city on the 26th November, 2008 were attacked with gunfire and bombs in the coordinated terror attack. 179 people were killed and 300 injuries were reported. 22 foreigners were also there among killed. It was the third day of a siege that has shaken India, raised tensions with neighboring Pakistan and prompted questions about the failure of the authorities to anticipate the tragedy or to react swiftly enough as it unfolded.
The first attack occurred On November 26, 2008 about 9:30 pm at the Cafe Leopold . A man was seen firing an AK-47 in the Taj Mahal Palace hotel lobby before fleeing into the kitchen. Another series of injuries was reported when a gunman opened fire at a central train station.
As the rampage progressed, gunmen opened fire at several locations throughout the city, including a crowded train station, a popular restaurant and several luxury hotels. The terrorists apparently sought victims with British or American passports.
Indian authorities believe that the attackers entered Mumbai via the waterfront near the two hotels. A fishing trawler is being held for investigation.
The attackers were “very, very familiar with the layout of the hotel,” said the commander, who disguised his face with a scarf and tinted glasses to hide his identity. He said the militants, who appeared to be under 30 years old, were “determined” and “remorseless.”
