Afghanistan: The U.S. goal is to defeat Al-Qaeda, says Barack Obama
U.S. President Barack Obama Friday ordered the dispatch of 4,000 additional troops in the war zone in Afghanistan to train local forces in the hope of accelerating the day when the United States will withdraw their troops. The goal, he said, is to defeat Al Qaeda.
These reinforcements will be added to the deployment of 17,000 soldiers of additional combat units already approved by the new administration. All these troops, including combat units, will join the country before the end of the year.
The head of the White House has warned that the terrorist network Al Qaeda planned from Pakistan other attacks in the United States after 11 September 2001. And he said the Afghan government could fall again in the hands of the Taliban.
“So I want the American people understand that we have a clear goal:” to disrupt, dismantle and defeat Al Qaeda in Pakistan and Afghanistan and prevent their return “in these countries in the future,” said Barack Obama . “It is the goal to be achieved,” he added. “And the terrorists who oppose us, my message is the same: we shall overcome.”
